About

About Me:

I am a first generation American, born and raised in New Jersey, and currently residing in Ohio while I get my PhD in I/O Psychology. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and grew up in a Taiwanese household, learning to play the violin, piano, guitar, and ukulele. I am not only an avid sports fan, but also a first time dog mama to a 6 year old boxer-shepherd rescue, and a professional shower singer. When I’m not reading research articles for school, you can usually find me napping with my dog, playing volleyball with friends, or crying to the latest hit television show.

I studied at Villanova University for my undergraduate degree, where I majored in psychology and graduated in 3.5 years. I’m currently a finishing my dissertation and my research focuses are feedback, diversity equity and inclusion, and microaggressions. I wrote my master’s thesis on Reactions to the Feedback Environment and my dissertation is looking at microaggressions in the workplace and possible interventions to decrease the negative effects of microaggressions.

Currently I work at Mattingly Solutions as a DEIx & I/O Project Lead.

TESTIMONIALS

"Based on our experience as a participant in Julie Chen’s Microaggressions workshop offered through Asian American Justice Innovation Lab (AAJIL), a colleague and I asked Julie if she might be willing to develop a couple of workshops for the faculty serving in our Equity Advocates Program—one on structural racism and another on interrupting bias.

She invited another colleague of hers, Ginelle Wolfe, to partner with her on developing, presenting materials, and facilitating both workshops. Their choice of materials and presentations were excellent, well-chosen for the group, and inspired deep discussion of the challenges we face in creating a more equitable environment. We will be making use of their materials for years to come. I highly recommend them both!
